Charlotte Party Rentals was founded in 2006 — born from a layoff, a trip to the IAAPA trade show, and a clear opening in the Charlotte market. Chris Epps started with a used truck, garage storage, and a vision to build something that did not try to be everything to everyone.
The first years were not easy. The Great Recession hit shortly after launch. But the business survived — and grew. By 2009, tents entered the inventory, and Chris recognized immediately that structured event setups were the higher-value, higher-complexity product worth building around.
By 2012, CPR was running two crews and a growing inventory. A short-lived joint venture along the way gave Chris a friendly competitor, sharpened his thinking, and made him more certain about the kind of company he wanted to build — one that owned its lane completely.
When COVID hit in 2020, most event companies collapsed. Chris saw something different. Businesses were reopening and needed outdoor covered spaces — to keep teams safe, hold events, and keep operations running. CPR pivoted immediately to structured outdoor tent solutions. That single decision doubled the business in one season and shifted the product mix from 40% tents to 95% tents almost overnight.
By winter 2023, CPR exited all other product lines entirely. Through a grant, Chris invested in a state-of-the-art tent washer and focused the company exclusively on what it does best — structured tent and event setups for corporate clients, construction teams, and organizations across the Carolinas.
Most tent rental companies still run on spreadsheets and phone calls. Charlotte Party Rentals does not.

Chris Epps founded Charlotte Party Rentals in 2006. He had been laid off. His cousin was running an event company. He attended the IAAPA trade show, saw the opportunity, and launched. Ten inflatable bounce houses. A used truck. Garage storage. He called it Party Time Events.
